Tehran (HRNW) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqai has said that negotiations between Iran and the United States are complicated and time-consuming due to decades of hostility between the two countries.
According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Baqai stated that discussions are continuing on multiple proposals and key issues, although important differences still remain and both sides are reviewing the proposed terms.
The Iranian spokesperson praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts, saying that the Pakistani leadership is playing an important role in facilitating the exchange of proposals between Washington and Tehran.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir recently visited Iran, where discussions were held with the Iranian leadership regarding a ceasefire, easing regional tensions, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Esmail Baqai clarified that Iran’s current priority in the talks is ending the war and reducing tensions across the region, including in Lebanon.
He further stated that Iran’s nuclear program is not part of the current negotiations and may only be reviewed 30 to 60 days after any agreement is reached.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged that some progress has been made in the negotiations, though significant disagreements still exist.
Iran has reportedly demanded the lifting of sanctions, compensation for war-related damages, an end to US pressure, and a complete regional ceasefire. On the other hand, the United States continues to insist on strict conditions regarding Iran’s nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz, preventing a final agreement so far.
