Alleged Illegal Trade in Rare Wildlife Exposed at Empress Market, Calls Grow for Enforcement Action

Karachi (HRNW): Concerns have been raised over the alleged illegal sale and purchase of rare animals and birds at Empress Market, where protected wildlife species are reportedly being traded openly.

According to reports, species allegedly being offered for sale include crocodiles, cranes, flamingos, owls, eagles, and several other rare birds and wild animals.

The reported activities have prompted questions regarding the effectiveness of the Sindh Wildlife Department in enforcing wildlife protection laws and preventing the illegal trade of protected species.

Environmental experts and local residents have expressed concern that insufficient enforcement against wildlife trafficking and illegal trading is placing several rare species at greater risk and undermining conservation efforts.

Citizens have urged the relevant authorities to conduct an immediate investigation, strictly enforce wildlife protection regulations, and take legal action against anyone found involved in the illegal capture, possession, transport, or sale of protected wildlife.

The alleged violations at Empress Market have intensified calls for a comprehensive crackdown on the illegal wildlife trade, with residents urging the Wildlife Department and other law enforcement agencies to take prompt and effective action.
