Supreme Court Halts Trial Proceedings Against Imran Khan in Damages Case

Islamabad (HRNW)- The Supreme Court of Pakistan has made a significant breakthrough in the damages case and has stopped the trial court from proceeding against Imran Khan. The apex court has issued a notice to Shehbaz Sharif and sought his response.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha Malik issued a stay order on the trial court’s proceedings. The court ruled that the case will be scheduled for early hearing.

During the hearing, Justice Ayesha Malik remarked that there is a dissenting note in the case, while two judges had upheld the decision to terminate the right of defense of the PTI founder.

PTI founder’s lawyer Ali Zafar told the court that his client was shot in the leg and could not appear in the trial court due to serious injuries. According to the lawyer, despite this, the trial court terminated the right of defense of the PTI founder on the grounds of non-compliance.

Justice Ayesha Malik asked how the right to defend could be waived when the trial court had admitted that the PTI founder was injured on two different dates. The court questioned these circumstances and suspended the trial court’s proceedings.

The Supreme Court has adjourned the further hearing of the case till a later date.
