Lahore (HRNW)- According to sources in the Higher Education Department of Punjab, the provincial government has decided to close 76 commerce colleges across Punjab and a summary in this regard has been sent to the Chief Minister for final approval.
Sources say that in the initial phase, 27 colleges will be handed over to different public sector universities so that they can be used as campuses, while there is also a proposal to hand over 25 colleges to the private sector.
According to the Higher Education Department, about 19,000 students studying in these colleges will be transferred to other general colleges, while plans are also being made to adjust the teaching and non-teaching staff in different institutions.
Sources further say that these steps are being taken for the restructuring of educational institutions and better utilization of resources, however, the final decision will be taken after the approval of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
