Petrol Price Includes Rs118.76 Per Litre in Taxes, Levies and Margins, Official Details Reveal

Islamabad (HRNW)- Details of the levies, taxes, and various margins included in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) have been revealed, showing that consumers are paying substantial additional charges beyond the base fuel cost.

According to official documents, a total of Rs118.76 per litre is being charged on petrol, while Rs110.65 per litre is being collected on high-speed diesel in the form of levies, taxes, duties, and distribution margins.

The documents state that the base cost of one litre of petrol is Rs178.77, while the government has fixed the retail price at Rs297.53 per litre. The price includes Rs70.36 as petroleum levy, Rs5 as climate support levy, Rs19.33 as customs duty, Rs6.86 as Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM), Rs7.87 as the oil marketing companies’ margin, and Rs8.64 as the dealers’ margin.

Similarly, the base cost of one litre of high-speed diesel is Rs198.85, while its retail price has been fixed at Rs309.50 per litre.

According to the documents, Rs110.65 per litre is added to the price of high-speed diesel through petroleum levy, taxes, duties, and various distribution margins before it reaches consumers.
