Lusaka (HRNW) — August 24, 2026: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has expressed concern over reports of arrests and detentions of opposition members in Zambia before and after the August 13 general elections.
The United Nations has urged Zambian authorities to refrain from arbitrary arrests and detentions and to ensure that all detainees are afforded full legal protection and fair-trial guarantees.
Amnesty International has also raised concerns over stalled reforms in Zambia and developments that could undermine human rights and democratic freedoms.
