Karachi (HRNW) — A judicial commission has been constituted to investigate the death of young businessman Mir Raza Ali following a request from the Sindh government. Sindh High Court Justice Umar Sial has been appointed as chairman of the commission.
The Sindh government had requested the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to constitute a judicial commission to ensure an independent, transparent and comprehensive review of the investigation into Mir Raza’s death.
The commission is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, available evidence and the investigation conducted by the relevant authorities, including any alleged shortcomings in the investigative process.
Family Rejects Judicial Commission, Demands JIT
The development comes amid continued concerns from Mir Raza’s family regarding the investigation.
The family held a press conference a day earlier and rejected the proposed judicial commission, instead demanding the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the case.
The family has raised questions about the manner in which the investigation has been conducted and has called for a specialised investigative mechanism capable of examining all available evidence and determining the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
The family’s position has created a significant difference of opinion over the mechanism through which the case should be investigated—while the Sindh government has moved toward a judicial commission, the family is seeking a JIT.
Demand for Transparent Investigation
Mir Raza’s death has remained a matter of public concern, with his family repeatedly seeking a transparent investigation and accountability for those responsible.
The formation of the judicial commission is therefore being viewed as an important development, although the family’s rejection of the mechanism means that questions remain regarding the future course of the investigation.
