GENEVA/TEHRAN (HRNW): UN experts have called on Iranian authorities to end what they describe as escalating arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture and executions involving members of ethnic minority communities.
The UN has specifically raised concerns regarding Kurdish and Baluch communities. According to UN experts, at least 24 members of the Baluch minority and 22 members of the Kurdish minority had been executed in 2026 at the time of their statement.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has separately expressed alarm over the increasing number of executions and death sentences in Iran, warning about the use of capital punishment in the current environment.
