Islamabad (HRNW)- A heated debate erupted in the Senate over the treatment of PTI founder Imran Khan and the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order regarding his medical examination at Shifa Hospital.
Senator Ali Zafar urged the government not to politicize Imran Khan’s health, warning that political circumstances could change and saying, “We can also come into government tomorrow.” He argued that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order should be followed and called for constitutional supremacy and respect for judicial decisions.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah rejected the allegations, saying the government had complied with the court’s order by having Imran Khan examined at a government hospital. He maintained that security concerns prevented his transfer to Shifa Hospital and said the court itself would determine whether its order had been properly implemented.
Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas supported Ali Zafar’s position and called for a Senate committee to inspect prison conditions. Government senators, meanwhile, accused PTI of politicizing the issue and violating the court’s directions.
The debate also included disagreements over medical tests and facilities being provided to Imran Khan. Senator Mashal Yousafzai questioned why certain medical examinations had allegedly not been conducted, while government members defended the treatment arrangements.
The Senate session was later adjourned until 10:30am Friday.
