Dhaka (HRNW)- Bangladesh has expressed interest in becoming part of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, with Dhaka describing participation in a broader Islamic security framework as a positive development.
Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, said Dhaka had conveyed its interest in the agreement, noting that Bangladesh is an established member of the Muslim world and that its leadership is increasingly being engaged by Muslim countries.
He said that if an Islamic security agreement is established in West Asia, Bangladesh’s participation would not be unusual and the matter is being viewed positively.
The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at a trilateral summit in Mecca on August 7. The agreement aims to strengthen collective security, deepen defense cooperation and promote peace and stability in the region and beyond.
