Over Seven Million Metro Passengers Recorded During Ali Khamenei’s Funeral Ceremonies

Tehran (HRNW)- Iran’s capital witnessed an unprecedented surge in public transportation during the funeral prayers and final rites of the country’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with more than seven million passengers using the Tehran Metro within a few hours.

According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, over seven million people traveled through different Tehran Metro stations between 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7:00 a.m. on Sunday as millions gathered to participate in the funeral ceremonies.

The report stated that, due to the expected turnout, authorities urged citizens to use the metro system instead of private vehicles to ease traffic congestion and improve access to the funeral venue.

To accommodate the large crowds, the Tehran Metro administration operated additional train services and deployed extra staff at several stations to assist passengers and maintain smooth operations.

Iranian officials said millions of people from across the country traveled to Tehran for the funeral prayers and burial ceremonies, placing extraordinary pressure on the metro network, roads, and other public transportation systems.

Officials added that the enhanced public transport arrangements enabled a large number of mourners to reach the ceremony safely while helping authorities manage traffic across the city.

The funeral was attended by senior Iranian government officials, religious leaders, foreign delegations, and millions of mourners who gathered to pay their final respects to Ali Khamenei.
