Islamabad (HRNW)- The High Court heard a case related to the eradication of drugs in educational institutions, in which the court directed the relevant institutions to ensure effective measures.
The hearing was conducted by Justice Inam Amin Minhas. During the hearing, the court ordered the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to submit a detailed report on the measures taken against drugs in universities.
The court directed the Ministry of Education to get the rules and regulations related to the eradication of drugs approved by the federal government, while HEC was also directed to include the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and the police in the monitoring committee.
During the hearing, various lawyers took the position that along with educational institutions, the trend of drugs is now increasing in schools as well, and young students are also falling under this scourge. Some lawyers also said that the easy availability of drugs at grocery stores is worrying.
During the hearing, the alleged Karachi case was also mentioned in the Islamabad High Court, in which revelations of drug distribution through riders and delivery boys were revealed. The court expressed concern over this situation and said that the role of such elements in drug distribution cannot be ignored.
The court also ordered the Islamabad district administration and police to ensure effective monitoring and action against drugs and directed that regular monitoring reports be submitted in educational institutions.
Furthermore, the court directed the media to run an awareness campaign against drugs and sought a report from PEMRA, while further hearing of the case was adjourned till the last week of June.
