Iran Warns Britain and France Against Military Deployment in the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran (HRNW)- Iran has strongly reacted to Britain and France’s announcement of deploying troops to conduct mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz, warning both countries against any military presence in the strategic waterway.

According to the International News Agency, Iran said responsibility for the security of the Strait of Hormuz rests solely with the Gulf littoral states and urged Britain and France to avoid any military deployment in the area.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said any external military activity in the Strait of Hormuz would be unacceptable. It warned that intervention by any country other than Iran and Oman could further escalate tensions in the region.

The ministry added that Iran, as a responsible regional power and a guarantor of security in the Strait of Hormuz, reserves the right to respond to any military movement in the strategically important waterway.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said that France and Britain were preparing to deploy personnel to support mine-clearing operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, through which a significant share of global oil and gas exports passes.

According to the report, the waterway had remained closed for several months following heightened tensions after the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, disrupting global energy supplies and contributing to higher oil, gas, and commodity prices.

Following the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has gradually resumed, contributing to improved energy supplies and easing fuel prices.

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea and is regarded as one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors for global energy trade.
