Court Sentences Accused to Death in Social Media Influencer Sana Yousaf Murder Case

Islamabad (HRNW)- The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad, while pronouncing the verdict in the murder case of social media influencer Sana Yousaf, found the accused Umar Hayat guilty and ordered the death penalty.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka, while pronouncing the reserved verdict, sentenced the accused to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 million along with the death penalty.

During the hearing, the prosecution took the position that solid evidence, call records and chat screenshots against the accused were presented in the court, while the victim’s family members were also present in the court.

On the other hand, the accused’s lawyer took the position that his client has expressed no confidence in the trial court and the State Council and that the petitions related to the case are pending in the Islamabad High Court, therefore the death penalty decision will be unfair.

It should be noted that Sana Yousuf was murdered at home on June 2, 2025, after which the police arrested the accused from Jaranwala on June 3. Later, witnesses identified the accused during an identification parade.

More than 50 hearings were held in the case, while 27 witnesses recorded their statements in the court. The court had indicted the accused on September 20 and the verdict was announced today after a long trial.
