Tehran (HRNW)- Russia has announced that it will continue its defense and military partnership with Iran, while describing the Strait of Hormuz as one of Iran’s most important strategic assets.
According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and former President of Russia, is leading a Russian delegation attending the funeral of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Tehran.
Speaking on the occasion, Medvedev said Russia would continue its strategic partnership with Iran even after the recent conflict involving the United States and Israel.
Describing the Strait of Hormuz as Iran’s greatest strategic military asset, he said it plays a vital role because a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas exports pass through the waterway, making it highly important during military or diplomatic crises.
The Russian leader added that cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in the fields of defense, economy, energy, and regional security would continue in the future. He said both countries would maintain close coordination on international issues and work together to safeguard their common interests.
