Israel-Turkey Tensions Rise After Israeli Strike on Syrian Air Base

Tel Aviv/Ankara (HRNW)- Tensions between Israel and Turkey have escalated following an Israeli strike on a Syrian air base amid growing concerns over Turkey’s possible military presence in Syria.

Israel has accused Turkey of preparing to deploy troops to a Syrian military base near Aleppo, describing the potential deployment as a security threat. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, Israel and Syria had agreed to maintain the existing security situation, but the possible deployment of Turkish forces could undermine that arrangement.

Israeli officials said they had repeatedly warned Syria that a Turkish military deployment could threaten Israeli security, but claimed that their concerns were not addressed.

Turkey has rejected the allegations, with Turkish officials saying Ankara was not preparing to deploy forces to any Syrian air base with the intention of threatening Israel.

The situation has also created tension with the United States, which reportedly criticized the Israeli strike despite being a close ally of Israel. The developments highlight growing strategic tensions involving Israel, Turkey and Syria.
