Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has reportedly directed his aides to explore arrangements for an early meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal citing US officials.

The report said Trump has privately discussed the possibility of meeting Kim, with the two leaders potentially meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November.

Trump and Kim last met on June 30, 2019, at the Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea. Trump became the first sitting US president to enter North Korean territory during that meeting.

The two leaders previously held summits in Singapore in June 2018 and Hanoi in February 2019, but failed to reach a lasting agreement on North Korea’s nuclear program.

Since then, North Korea has continued developing its nuclear and missile capabilities, contributing to heightened tensions between Washington and Pyongyang.
