Gujranwala Central Jail Superintendent Arrested in Alleged Rs45 Million Bribery Case

Gujranwala (HRNW) — The Superintendent of Central Jail Gujranwala, Azhar Cheema, has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption authorities over allegations of receiving a bribe of Rs45 million from a citizen.

According to the FIR and information presented before the court, Azhar Cheema allegedly received the amount from a citizen identified as Javed Ahmed. The accused allegedly described the payment as an investment in a housing or township project and allegedly continued making assurances regarding the investment.

After the matter reportedly remained unresolved, Javed Ahmed approached the authorities, following which a case was registered and the jail superintendent was arrested.

Senior Civil Judge Shehzad Ahmed subsequently handed the accused over to Anti-Corruption Police on a five-day physical remand to facilitate further investigation.

The Anti-Corruption authorities are investigating the allegations, including the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial transaction and the whereabouts of the money.
