Layyah: Outrage After Mother and Daughters Allegedly Harassed by Police over Land Dispute

LAYYAH (HRNW): A distressing incident of alleged abuse and harassment of a mother and her daughters by local police has emerged in Tehsil Chaubara, sparking widespread concern across Punjab.

According to the victimized family, the incident is rooted in a long-standing inheritance dispute over 110 kanals of land. After winning the legal battle with the intervention of the court and the Chief Minister of Punjab’s Complaint Cell, the family claims their rival relatives became infuriated. In an alleged retaliatory move, local police reportedly scaled the walls of the family’s home late at night.

The family further alleged that the raid was conducted without the presence of lady police officers. Furthermore, instead of being taken to the police station, the women were reportedly moved to a police official’s private quarters. There, they were allegedly subjected to inappropriate interrogation. In a particularly humiliating claim, one of the daughters was reportedly forced to stand on one leg for an extended period as a form of punishment.

This incident has raised serious questions regarding the implementation of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s “Red Line” policy concerning the respect and protection of women. The family is now demanding immediate justice and a high-level inquiry into the conduct of the officers involved. As of now, official authorities have yet to release a formal statement regarding these allegations.
