Red Line Project Has Become a Curse for the People of Karachi, Munem Zafar Khan Addresses Protest at University Road

Karachi (HRNW): Munem Zafar Khan, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, while speaking to the media at the Red Line project site on University Road, launched a scathing critique against the Sindh Government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). He was accompanied by Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr. Fawad Ahmed and District East Emir Naeem Akhtar. Munem Zafar stated that the Red Line project has turned into a permanent torment for the local residents and business centers, accusing the PPP of blatant deception regarding the project’s completion.

Highlighting the project’s timeline, he noted that the feasibility study began in 2016 at a staggering cost of $9.7 million and took three years to complete. Construction finally started in January 2022 with a completion deadline of December 2023; however, it remains unfinished even in 2026. Munem Zafar mockingly remarked that people are now making memes suggesting that the Strait of Hormuz might open before University Road does. He revealed that due to gross mismanagement, four laborers have already lost their lives, and what was once the city’s finest corridor after Sharea Faisal has been reduced to ruins.

Munem Zafar Khan further questioned the Mayor of Karachi regarding the utilization of the city’s 55 billion rupee fund, asking why garbage is not being collected and how “soft openings” of projects like the Karimabad Underpass are being claimed from the comfort of home. He asserted that the combination of corruption and mismanagement by the PPP has destroyed educational institutions and commercial activities. Jamaat-e-Islami demanded that University Road be immediately restored to its original condition, vowing to mobilize the public against this “feudal mindset” to reclaim their rights.
