“I Was the Target”: Donald Trump Reacts to Shooting, Dismisses Links to Iran Conflict

WASHINGTON (HRNW): U.S. President Donald Trump, reacting to the shooting incident at the White House Press Dinner, has stated that he was the primary target of the assailant. However, he clarified that he does not believe the shooting is connected to the ongoing tensions or conflict with Iran.

Speaking at a press conference, President Trump revealed that the suspect attempted the attack from approximately 50 yards away at a security checkpoint. He praised the Secret Service for their swift and heroic action, noting that their timely intervention saved thousands of lives. One officer was hit by gunfire but remained safe thanks to a bulletproof vest. Trump described the attacker, who is reportedly from California, as a “very sick individual.”

The Moment of the Attack and Melania’s Shock

Describing the moments during the dinner, Trump said, “It was an amazing moment. I heard loud noises like trays falling and was trying to see what happened. Melania immediately said it was a ‘bad sound.’ She is still in deep shock.” Despite the incident, the President maintained a firm stance, declaring that political activities would not be canceled and that an even larger event would be organized within 30 days.

Presidency: The Most Dangerous Profession?

In a notable comparison, President Trump likened the risks of the presidency to dangerous fields like car racing and bull riding. He claimed that nearly 5.8% of U.S. presidents have faced shooting incidents. Gesturing toward Secretary of State Marco Rubio, he quipped, “If Marco had told me all this earlier, maybe I wouldn’t have run for President.” Nevertheless, he emphasized that as Commander-in-Chief, one must take risks and he intends to continue living a normal life.
