Islamabad (HRNW)- The federal government has increased the levy on petroleum products, after which there are fears that the inflationary pressure on the public will increase further.
According to sources, the petroleum levy on petrol has been increased by Rs 26.77 per liter, after which the total levy rate has reached Rs 107.38 per liter. Earlier, the levy on petrol was Rs 80.61 per liter.
Sources say that the decision to increase the levy has been taken to increase government revenue and meet financial needs, however, this move is likely to further increase travel expenses and prices of essential commodities for ordinary citizens.
The opposition and public circles have strongly criticized this decision and alleged that the government led by Shahbaz Sharif has used the current situation as a means of collecting more from the public. According to critics, the increase in petroleum levy will directly lead to an increase in inflation and the middle and poor classes will be the most affected.
On the other hand, the government’s position is that tough decisions are inevitable in difficult economic conditions and fiscal stability is not possible without an increase in revenue. However, there is a strong reaction from the public to this decision.
