The Secretary-General said that the extension of the ceasefire is an important step towards reducing tensions and strengthens the prospects for peace in the region.
He said that this step provides an important opportunity for diplomacy and confidence-building between Iran and the US, so all parties should take this progress forward. Antonio Guterres stressed that all actions that could undermine the ceasefire should be avoided, and the parties should continue constructive negotiations for a sustainable and lasting solution. He also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for negotiations and said that he hoped that these efforts would help create favorable conditions for a comprehensive and permanent solution to the conflict.
