Lahore (HRNW)- The Lahore High Court has accepted the petition filed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and directed the return of Rs 70 million deposited in connection with the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Miss Alia Neelam heard the petition seeking the withdrawal of the amount. During the proceedings, NAB’s lawyer submitted an affidavit before the Constitutional Court regarding the closure of the reference.
Advocate Javed Arshad Bhatti appeared on behalf of Maryam Nawaz, while Assistant Deputy Attorney General Rafaqat Dogar and Prosecutor Fatima Shahid also represented their respective sides in court.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that the Rs 70 million had been deposited as a guarantee in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and since NAB had closed the matter, the amount should now be returned. Accepting the plea, the court directed that the deposited amount be released.
