Karachi (HRNW)- Sindh Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has formally inaugurated a special polio booster campaign to make the efforts to eradicate polio virus in the province more effective.
During the central inauguration ceremony held at the Sindh Secretariat in Karachi, the Health Minister launched the polio booster dose campaign for children. Secretary Health Tahir Hussain Sanghi, EOC Coordinator Shehryar Memon and other senior officials of the health department were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, the Health Minister said that the Sindh government is utilizing all available resources to completely eradicate polio from the province. He said that immunization is very important to protect children from a deadly disease like polio and the cooperation of parents is key in this regard.
He urged parents to make it mandatory for children aged 4 to 10 years to get polio booster doses so that they are protected from the risk of permanent disability.
The Health Minister further said that effective arrangements have been made for the security of polio teams and access to sensitive areas during the campaign to ensure the provision of vaccines to every child.
He said that the government, parents, teachers, scholars and civil society will have to play a joint responsibility to eradicate polio so that future generations can be protected from this disease.
Under this special campaign, lakhs of children in different districts including 89 UCs of Karachi will be provided with additional doses of polio vaccine (booster dose) by going door to door and at established centers.
