Two More Children Die of Rabies in Sindh, Death Toll Reaches 37

Karachi (HRNW)- Two more children have died from rabies in Sindh, bringing the total number of rabies-related deaths in the province to 37, according to hospital officials.

The two children died at Indus Hospital, Karachi, after developing rabies. One of the victims was six-year-old Abiha, daughter of Noman, a resident of Airport Road in Latifabad, Hyderabad District.

The second victim was four-year-old Waqar, son of Sultan, a resident of Village Razi Khan in Dadu District. Hospital officials said both children had been bitten by dogs but had not received the anti-rabies vaccine.

According to hospital authorities, 28 people have died from rabies at Indus Hospital in Karachi, while one death was reported at Indus Hospital in Badin and eight at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi.

The growing number of deaths has raised concerns over the continued risk posed by dog bites and the need for timely access to anti-rabies vaccination and medical treatment.

Hospital officials said more than 14,000 dog-bite cases have been reported at Indus Hospital, Karachi. Jinnah Hospital and Civil Hospital, Karachi, have each recorded approximately 11,000 dog-bite cases, highlighting the scale of the public health challenge across the province.

Health authorities and hospitals continue to stress the importance of seeking immediate medical attention after a dog bite, particularly because timely vaccination can help prevent the development of rabies.
