Iran Warns UAE Over Netanyahu Visit, Citing Regional Security Concerns

Tehran (HRNW)- Iran has warned the United Arab Emirates over its decision to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the visit could have negative consequences amid heightened regional tensions.

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said in a post on X that hosting Netanyahu would not provide the UAE with greater security, comparing it with the presence of US military bases in the country. He also urged Emirati leaders to avoid actions that could fuel further conflict and criticized the UAE’s claims regarding the disputed Gulf islands administered by Iran.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry separately condemned Netanyahu’s visit and called on regional governments to prevent their territories from being used for actions against other countries. Tehran also warned regional states about what it described as the security implications of Israel’s presence in the region.

Netanyahu visited Abu Dhabi on Sunday, where he met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE’s official news agency, WAM, said the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen ties between the two countries.

The visit comes amid longstanding differences between Iran and the UAE over three disputed Gulf islands, as well as continuing tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States. Iran’s latest statements reflect Tehran’s opposition to the expansion of Israel’s regional diplomatic and security relationships.
