Karachi (HRNW): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the Sindh Assembly, Sajjad Ali Soomro, has launched a scathing critique against the Sindh government regarding the slow pace of development projects, specifically the BRT project, and the overall deteriorating infrastructure of Karachi.
Superficial Visits and the Destruction of University Road
Addressing Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Sajjad Ali Soomro advised him to stop conducting “ceremonial tours” on a scooter for photo opportunities. He suggested the Mayor take a ride through University Road to witness the actual devastation. He stated that while the claims regarding the BRT project are grand, the reality remains a living testament to the Sindh government’s incompetence, leaving major arteries in shambles.
Allegations of Corruption and Public Misery
The MPA criticized the top leadership and ministers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), claiming that the wealth accumulated by figures like Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mukesh Chawla, and Nasir Hussain Shah is widely discussed. He remarked that such individuals possess enough wealth to potentially pay off the national debt. He expressed regret that the party which rose on the slogan of “Roti, Kapra, aur Makaan” (Food, Clothing, and Shelter) has instead stripped the public of these very rights.
Karachi and Lyari: A Picture of Neglect
Sajjad Ali Soomro highlighted the stark contrast in the city’s administration:
-
VIP Culture: While the roads surrounding Bilawal House are gleaming, the rest of Karachi and Lyari resemble ruins.
-
Sewerage Crisis: Overflowing gutters and broken roads have become the norm across the city, yet the rulers remain indifferent to the public’s suffering.
He further added that the citizens of Karachi are being crushed under the weight of inflation, administrative negligence, and ruined infrastructure, with no one held accountable for their plight.
