Tehran (HRNW)- The Iranian government has appointed Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf as its special representative for China affairs.

According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, informed sources said that Qalibaf was recently given the new role to strengthen coordination with Beijing on strategic matters.

The report stated that he will act as a liaison between various national institutions in Iran that are involved in China-related policies and cooperation.

Sources further said that the proposal to appoint Qalibaf was made by President Masoud Pezeshkian and was subsequently approved by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Officials indicated that Qalibaf’s mandate differs from previous representatives due to the scope of his authority and responsibilities. However, it remains unclear whether he will continue serving as Parliament Speaker alongside his new appointment.
