New York (HRNW)- A report published in the American newspaper New York Times has claimed that the United States and Israel have completed preparations for a potential military operation against Iran, which could begin as early as next week.
According to the report, cited by the World News Agency, Washington and Tel Aviv are currently engaged in what is described as the most intensive phase of military planning against Iran, with multiple options under consideration.
The report states that two senior Middle East officials indicated that the options being discussed include large-scale airstrikes targeting Iranian military and infrastructure sites, potential operations involving Iran’s key oil export facility at Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, and even a high-risk commando mission to recover nuclear material buried under debris.
US officials reportedly warned that any special forces operation aimed at securing highly enriched uranium would be extremely dangerous and could require a large-scale troop deployment, a full operational siege, and could risk direct confrontation with Iranian ground forces.
The report further noted that Iran’s nuclear facilities were previously targeted during joint US-Israeli operations in June last year. It added that around 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium may have been buried in the aftermath, material which experts believe could be sufficient for the production of multiple nuclear weapons.
