Great White Shark Kills 32-Year-Old Surfer Near Rottnest Island in Western Australia

Perth (HRNW)- A white shark attack in Western Australia has left a 32-year-old surfer dead after a violent incident near Rottnest Island, northwest of Perth.

According to the World News Agency, the tragic event occurred when a large great white shark attacked a swimmer in the popular surfing waters near the tourist destination. The shark, reported to be around 32 feet long, severely injured the victim in the attack.

Rottnest Island is known globally for its white sand beaches, diving spots, and surfing locations, attracting thousands of tourists each year.

Rescue teams quickly transported the critically injured surfer to a nearby hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed that the body was handed over to the family after legal procedures.

Australia’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development verified that the attack was carried out by a great white shark and issued warnings urging the public to avoid risky swimming and surfing in the affected waters.

Officials noted that Australia records a relatively high number of shark encounters, with around 1,300 incidents documented since 1791. Globally, between 70 and 100 shark attacks are reported each year, though not all are fatal.
