Gaza (HRNW)- Hamas has confirmed that the head of the organization in Gaza and commander of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Izzedin al-Hadad, has been martyred in an Israeli airstrike along with his wife and daughter in Gaza.
According to Arab media reports from Gaza, mosques announced his martyrdom, after which large numbers of Palestinians came out and raised slogans in protest. His body, wrapped in the Hamas flag bearing the Kalma Tayyaba, was first taken to a hospital and later brought to Al-Aqsa Mosque, where thousands attended his funeral prayers.
The Israeli military claimed that Izzedin al-Hadad was among the key planners of the October 7, 2023 attacks and later became a central Hamas military leader in Gaza. Hamas has not yet officially commented on Israel’s claims regarding his operational role.
Israeli officials said he had long been involved in military planning and was known by the nickname “The Ghost” due to repeatedly escaping assassination attempts.
His killing comes amid continued escalation in Gaza, where the ongoing conflict has caused widespread destruction and a severe humanitarian crisis, with massive displacement and casualties reported over the past months.
