Affordable Housing for Low-Income Families Among Government Priorities, Says PM Shehbaz Sharif

Islamabad (HRNW)- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that providing affordable housing for low-income groups is among the top priorities of the government as reforms in the housing sector become increasingly necessary due to rapid population growth and urban expansion.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on housing sector reforms in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that affordable housing projects, encouraging private sector participation and improving public facilities are key components of the government’s strategy.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that uncontrolled urban sprawl is increasing pressure on agricultural land and directed authorities to adopt an effective and sustainable planning strategy. He also instructed that all housing sector matters should be digitized and automated to improve transparency and efficiency.

During the meeting, officials presented several reform proposals, including simplifying the regulatory framework to attract credible investors and developers, making SECP registration mandatory for housing and development firms, and introducing master town planning for major cities.

Suggestions were also discussed regarding controlling unplanned urban expansion, promoting high-rise buildings and vertical development in large cities, and establishing a one-window system to protect the rights of developers, buyers and other stakeholders.

The Prime Minister directed officials to consult provincial governments regarding the proposed reforms and measures.

The meeting was attended by several federal ministers, senior officials, the Chairman NAB, Attorney General and other concerned authorities.
