Karachi (HRNW) – Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) Chief Muhammad Shadab Raza Naqshbandi has urged India to refrain from what he described as “water aggression” and to fully comply with international agreements governing shared water resources.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Naqshbandi said Pakistan’s water rights, particularly those relating to the Indus River, are directly linked to the country’s national security, agriculture, economy, and the well-being of its people. He stressed that Pakistan would not accept any compromise on its legitimate water rights.
Criticizing what he termed India’s unilateral policies regarding transboundary water resources, the PST leader called on New Delhi to honor the Indus Waters Treaty and other relevant international legal obligations. He maintained that any attempt to restrict or interfere with Pakistan’s share of water would be unacceptable.
Naqshbandi urged the Government of Pakistan to strengthen its diplomatic and legal efforts on the issue and to effectively present Pakistan’s position before the international community. He said international organizations should play a constructive role in ensuring respect for international agreements and promoting peace and stability in the region.
He further stated that if Pakistan’s water rights were threatened, the country should utilize all available legal, constitutional, diplomatic, and international mechanisms to safeguard its national interests.
The PST chief emphasized that the people of Pakistan, along with political and religious parties, stand united in support of protecting the country’s water resources. He described the Indus River as Pakistan’s “lifeline” and called for the preservation of all legal protections governing its waters.
Naqshbandi also urged the government to raise a strong voice against what he described as India’s water-related policies and other actions affecting Pakistan’s national interests.
