Punjab’s ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ Program Issues 166,000 Interest-Free Housing Loans

Lahore (HRNW)- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing initiative has reached another milestone, with 166,000 interest-free housing loans issued to eligible applicants across the province.

According to the program’s spokesperson, more than Rs215.76 billion has been disbursed for house construction under the scheme. As a result, 155,594 houses have been completed, enabling thousands of families to move into their own homes.

The spokesperson said 28,453 houses are currently under construction, while work on 32,048 additional houses is expected to begin soon.

The program has also recorded the recovery of more than Rs14.5 billion in loan repayments, reflecting continued implementation of the housing finance initiative.

A total of 1,211,954 applications were received for the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar program, which aims to provide interest-free housing finance to low-income families. Officials describe it as one of Pakistan’s largest affordable housing finance initiatives.

According to official figures, 91,434 men, 14,077 women, and 23 transgender persons have benefited from the program by constructing their own homes.

The spokesperson added that 60,139 houses have been completed in rural Punjab, while 45,325 houses have been completed in urban areas, helping thousands of families secure permanent housing.

Officials said the program continues to expand across the province, with the goal of providing equal housing opportunities to low-income families in both rural and urban Punjab.
