Peshawar (HRNW)- The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued a formal notification to divide Swat district into two separate districts in accordance with the cabinet’s decision. According to the notification issued by the provincial department, the headquarters of Upper Swat district will be located in Matta, while the headquarters of Swat district will be established in Gulkada Tehsil Babuzai.
Under the new administrative arrangement, Upper Swat district will comprise Matta, Bahrain and Khwaza Khela tehsils, whereas Swat district will include Babuzai, Kabal, Charbagh and Brikot tehsils. The decision to divide Swat into two parts was taken during the 43rd provincial cabinet meeting held on December 19, 2025. Following this administrative change, the total number of districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased to 40.
