Jerusalem (HRNW)- The head priest of the Latin Church in occupied Jerusalem, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, has warned that extremism is rapidly increasing within Israeli society since the beginning of the ongoing Gaza conflict.
According to media reports, speaking from Jerusalem and in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Pizzaballa said that a growing “culture of insults” targeting Arabs and non-Jews is becoming increasingly visible in Israeli society.
He stated that the environment created following the Israeli military operation in Gaza has contributed to the rise of extremist rhetoric. He further noted that such tendencies are unfortunately gaining momentum and their effects are now being seen in certain sectors of Israeli civil society.
The church leader added that this growing culture is not only directed against Arabs but also against anything perceived as non-Jewish, warning that such attitudes are expanding and becoming more deeply rooted in parts of society.
