Islamabad (HRNW)- The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel, introducing new levy rates while keeping fuel prices unchanged for the coming week.
According to sources in the Petroleum Division, the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs6.57 per litre, raising the total levy to Rs79.54 per litre.
Similarly, the levy on petrol has been increased by 39 paisa per litre, bringing the new levy to Rs66.64 per litre.
Sources further said that the petroleum levy on kerosene has been maintained at Rs20.36 per litre, with no changes made to its existing rate.
The government has also decided not to provide immediate relief to consumers by reducing petrol and diesel prices, announcing that fuel prices will remain unchanged for the next week.
According to economic experts, the increase in the petroleum levy is aimed at boosting government revenue, although the decision has raised concerns among sections of the public expecting relief amid fluctuations in international oil prices.
