Washington (HRNW) – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed that US aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, including radar installations, after Iran allegedly attacked a merchant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said Iran attacked the MV Ever Lovely on June 25, prompting the US Air Force to strike Iranian missile and drone storage sites as well as radar facilities.
The statement described Iran’s alleged attack on merchant shipping as an unprovoked action and a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
According to CENTCOM, the incident also threatens freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.
The US military said its forces remain deployed to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and are maintaining vigilance to support the implementation of the agreement with Iran.
