Ottawa (HRNW)- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has confirmed that Canada has no intention of signing a free trade agreement with China, following threats by US President Donald Trump to impose 100% tariffs on Canadian products if such a deal were made.
Carney clarified that the recent agreement with China is not a free trade deal but merely a tariff reduction in certain sectors previously affected by additional duties. Under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Canada must provide prior notification before entering trade deals with non-market economies, which it has not done with China.
