Karachi (HRNW) – Police at the Mochko Check Post in Keamari District conducted a successful operation on Hub River Road, foiling an attempt to smuggle hazardous and banned gutka, mawa, and chhalia, according to a police spokesperson.
Authorities stated that the contraband was being transported in a dumper carrying gravel and sand from Balochistan to Karachi. During inspection, police recovered 110 sacks of chhalia and 20 sacks of mawa, collectively weighing more than one ton.
According to officials, the illegal substances were concealed beneath construction material in an attempt to evade detection and transport them into Karachi.
Police said that acting on intelligence, officers attempted to intercept the suspicious vehicle. Upon being pursued, the driver abandoned the dumper on Hub River Road and fled the scene.
The seized vehicle and recovered contraband have been taken into custody, and a case has been registered under FIR No. 427/26, while further investigation is underway.
Officials reiterated that strict action will continue against the smuggling and distribution of hazardous chewing substances that pose serious health risks to the public.
