Gulf of Oman (HRNW)- The US military has claimed that a vessel operating under the Gambian flag was disabled after being targeted in the Gulf of Oman for allegedly attempting to sail toward an Iranian port in violation of a US-imposed blockade.
According to a statement attributed to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the ship was issued multiple warnings but failed to comply with instructions. The statement said that a Hellfire missile launched from a US aircraft struck the vessel’s engine room, rendering it unable to continue its journey toward Iran.
US military officials further claimed that a total of five commercial vessels have been disabled and 116 ships have been diverted as part of efforts to enforce the alleged blockade in the region.
However, the reported incident and the claims made by US officials have not been independently verified, and no immediate confirmation has been provided by other authoritative sources.
The development comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where maritime security and freedom of navigation remain key international concerns.
