Vilnius (HRNW)- Lithuania’s Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has resigned from office, a day after the resignation announcement of the British Prime Minister, according to media reports.
Speaking during the final meeting of her cabinet, Ruginienė described the occasion as a difficult day and reflected on the challenges faced by her government in recent months. She stated that her administration had been required to make several difficult decisions during its time in office.
According to reports, the resignation comes amid growing pressure from within her Social Democratic Party and follows the partial collapse of the governing coalition. The development occurs less than a year after she assumed the office of prime minister.
Political analysts believe the resignation places Lithuania at a significant political crossroads and highlights continuing instability within the country’s political landscape.
Media reports indicate that Mandujas Sincievics, the 42-year-old mayor of the city of Jonava, is being considered as a leading candidate to succeed Ruginienė and take over the government’s leadership.
Observers say the coming days will be crucial in determining the future direction of Lithuania’s government and the stability of its ruling coalition.
