Muscat/Tehran (HRNW)- Unconfirmed reports have emerged claiming that an oil tanker near Oman in the Strait of Hormuz was targeted by missiles and caught fire. However, no credible government agency or major international news organization has officially confirmed the incident.
According to reports circulating on social media, an active account initially shared the claim along with a video showing what appeared to be a fire or explosion in the sea at night. Several other social media accounts subsequently repeated the claim.
The unverified reports allege that multiple anti-ship cruise missiles were launched from the Sirik region of southern Iran and targeted an oil tanker traveling along the southern maritime route of the Strait of Hormuz near the Omani coast.
Some social media posts claimed that the tanker caught fire after being struck by several missiles. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
There is currently no reliable information regarding the name or flag of the tanker, its ownership, the amount of oil being carried, the number of crew members on board, or any possible casualties.
