Probolinggo, Indonesia (HRNW)- A forest fire near Mount Bromo in East Java has entered its eighth consecutive day, burning approximately 1,285 acres of land and threatening forest and surrounding vegetation.
According to the Jakarta Globe, the fire was reported in the Pancak 30 area of Sembar district, Probolinggo Regency, within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
Head of the Probolinggo Disaster Mitigation Agency Umer Sajrif said what initially began as a small forest fire had spread significantly, engulfing large areas of forest and surrounding vegetation.
Firefighting teams are carrying out both ground and aerial operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
Three helicopters have been deployed to conduct water-spraying operations, particularly in areas where rugged terrain makes access difficult for ground crews.
Firefighters are also using water tankers and water-spraying drones as part of ongoing efforts to control the fire.
