New York (HRNW) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has raised no major objection to Pakistan’s targeted fuel relief scheme aimed at providing support to low-income citizens.
The Prime Minister made the remarks after meeting IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
According to reports, the Prime Minister briefed the IMF on the difficulties faced by lower-income groups and explained that the fuel relief programme was designed as a targeted and transparent mechanism.
The government has introduced a fuel relief scheme for eligible motorcycle users, rickshaw drivers and owners of vehicles up to 800cc, under which qualifying beneficiaries may receive relief of up to Rs100 per litre.
The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to implementing its ongoing reform programme with the IMF.
