Ankara (HRNW)- Reports in Israeli media have claimed that Turkey’s intervention helped thwart an alleged Israeli plan to use Kurdish armed groups to promote regime change in Iran, reportedly leading to tensions within Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad and the removal of two senior officials.
According to the reports, Mossad had developed a strategy involving Kurdish armed groups operating in northern Iraq and Iran, with the alleged aim of coordinating their activities with Israeli air operations against Iran.
The reported strategy was intended to encourage an internal uprising against the Iranian government and support it through Israeli air power. Israeli media reports said the plan had reached an advanced stage before it was disrupted.
According to the reports, increased activity by Kurdish elements near the northern Iraq-Iran border was detected, prompting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to raise the issue with US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation in early March.
Erdogan reportedly warned Trump against allowing armed groups to become involved in the conflict with Iran and reiterated Turkey’s position in support of Iran’s territorial integrity.
Subsequently, US media reports indicated that Trump became reluctant to support the use of Kurdish groups inside Iran and grew more skeptical of the regime-change proposal reportedly advocated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Former Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also reportedly said that Turkey had played an active role in preventing the alleged plan from moving forward.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that two senior Mossad officials allegedly involved in developing the regime-change strategy were removed from their positions approximately six months after the plan was formulated.
Israeli media further reported that Netanyahu had supported the proposal and presented it to Trump.
The claims have not been independently confirmed by all parties involved, and details regarding the alleged Mossad strategy and the reported dismissals remain based primarily on media reports.
