Nizhny Novgorod, Russia (HRNW)- At least 12 people have reportedly been killed and several others injured in fresh drone strikes attributed to pro-Ukrainian forces targeting industrial and civilian sites in Russia’s Tatarstan region, according to Russian state media.
The reported attacks targeted unspecified industrial and civilian facilities in Nizhny Novgorod, according to the city’s mayor, Radmir Belyaev, who said in a statement on Telegram that the strikes caused damage in the area.
Various Russian media reports said that the region’s oil refinery, described as one of Russia’s most technologically advanced facilities, was damaged in the attack.
Unverified videos circulating on social media appeared to show smoke rising from the oil refinery. Reuters said it was unable to independently verify the footage.
The refinery was reportedly targeted by Ukraine in early June as well. According to available information, the facility processed approximately 17 million tonnes of crude oil in 2024, producing around 2.7 million tonnes of petrol and 8.5 million tonnes of diesel fuel.
The latest reported strikes come amid continued Ukrainian drone attacks against targets inside Russia, with industrial and energy infrastructure remaining among the facilities affected.
