Pope Leo XIV Criticizes Global Priorities, Urges Leaders to Fight Hunger Instead of Funding Wars

Rome (HRNW)- Pope Leo XIV, the spiritual leader of the Christian community, has criticized world leaders for prioritizing conflicts over humanitarian needs, saying that many governments appear more interested in financing wars than feeding hungry people.

Addressing the governing body of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome, Pope Leo XIV expressed concern that global priorities have become seriously distorted at a time when millions around the world continue to face food insecurity and hunger.

The Pope called on governments to remove obstacles affecting humanitarian assistance, particularly following reductions in international aid funding by the United States and other countries. He urged world leaders to increase spending aimed at addressing the global hunger crisis and to ensure that food assistance is not restricted due to geopolitical considerations.

Pope Leo XIV also strongly criticized political and administrative barriers that delay the delivery of humanitarian aid, while military expenditures continue to rise without interruption. He emphasized that helping vulnerable populations should remain a top international priority.

Observers say the Pope’s remarks highlight growing concerns among humanitarian organizations about declining aid budgets and increasing global food insecurity amid ongoing conflicts and economic challenges.
