Stockholm (HRNW)- Protests continue across several European countries against the policies of Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government and the reported violence against peaceful protesters in Herat.
According to media reports, hundreds of Afghan refugees gathered in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, to demonstrate against the Taliban administration’s policies and its treatment of women and protesters.
Carrying placards and banners, demonstrators chanted slogans against the Taliban government and called on the international community to take immediate action regarding the situation in Afghanistan.
The protesters urged the Swedish government and the broader international community to reconsider and end political and economic engagement with the Taliban authorities. They argued that maintaining such relations undermines the rights and concerns of Afghan civilians affected by the country’s ongoing challenges.
Participants in the demonstration also called on European governments and institutions to impose stricter measures against Taliban leaders, including restrictions on travel and visa issuance.
Meanwhile, the international organization World Liberty Congress condemned the reported use of force against protesters in Herat and expressed concern over what it described as continued restrictions on women and journalists in Afghanistan. The organization stated that these developments raise serious human rights concerns.
The demonstrations reflect ongoing international debate and concern regarding governance, human rights and civil liberties in Afghanistan.
